New Student Residence Coming to Toronto Metropolitan University

The building will offer flexible options and academic spaces to enhance students' campus experience.

Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) is set to open a new 21-storey student residence on Bond Street and Dundas Street East in Toronto, targeted for 2030. When it's ready, it will add over 1,370 student beds and include two large classrooms on the lower level.

Currently, TMU has around 48,000 students and more than 1,100 beds across three residence buildings. The Bond Street Residence will play a vital role in shaping the student experience at TMU for years to come, offering more on-campus housing and learning opportunities.

"This new residence not only increases on-campus housing options at TMU, it also offers another enhanced element of campus life for current and prospective students," said Mohamed Lachemi, President and Vice-Chancellor at TMU.

More than a residence

A student residence is more than just having a place to sleep. Research shows that residence living has a positive influence on academic performance, improves student retention and strengthens overall campus engagement.

Living close to campus gives students the opportunity to build friendships, develop study habits and be at the heart of events and activities happening on campus and across downtown Toronto.

A new style of student living

The Bond Street Residence introduces a new style of student living featuring primarily self-contained suites.

The typical unit will have three bedrooms (two private and one shared), as well as an eat-in kitchen, giving students the option to cook independently rather than rely on an all-inclusive meal plan.

Most bedrooms will include private washrooms, while the shared rooms will also share a washroom between two students.

Designed with students in mind, the new residence will offer flexible nine or 12-month term lengths, perfect for commuter students and those who may not be looking for full-year accommodations.

Like other TMU residences, each floor will have common area lounges for socializing and larger amenity spaces throughout the building for study and creative pursuits.
